Anadarko Petroleum Corp. Agreement with the Government of Guyana

The government of Guyana releases another Petroleum Agreement The Ministry of Natural Resources is making available for public scrutiny, yet another contract between the Government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and companies in the petroleum sector. Consultancy starts for Stakeholder Engagements on REDD+ & Readiness Activities in Guyana

GEORGETOWN, Guyana: Countrywide community engagements have started under the consultancy for stakeholder participation on Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+) and Readiness Activities in Guyana. Commencing in early May, stakeholder engagements were held in Moruca, Region One; Mainstay, Region Two; Georgetown, Region Four and; Kwakwani, Region Ten. There would be further engagements in Bartica, Region Seven; Mahdia, Region Eight and; Lethem, Region Nine in the coming weeks. R.L. Sukhram and Sons Sawmill and Rong-An Inc. awarded approximately 400,000 hectares each of former Barama Company Limited concessions; investments totaling US$9.5 m by 2020 to create 524 jobs

GEORGETOWN, Guyana - Following Barama Company Limited’s relinquishing of its 1.6 million hectare forest concession in October 2016, the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) has awarded two lots totaling over 800,000 hectares of that concession to R.L. Sukhram and Sons Sawmill and Rong-An Inc. The Ministry of Natural Resources along with the GFC had taken the decision to divide the former Barama Company Limited concession into four parcels, each of approximately 400,000 hectares. In keeping with its commitment obligations, the Government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana will be represented at the first Conference of the Parties to the Minamata Convention to be held from September 24 – 29, 2017 in Geneva, Switzerland. Phase two of Guyana’s Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) project gets underway with release of funds by NORAD

GEORGETOWN, Guyana - The Government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana has received the first tranche of a US$6.34 million grant from the Kingdom of Norway as it enters into the second phase of the forest monitoring mechanism known as Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV). This second phase of the MRV programme will no longer be seen as a means of satisfying a conditionality for funding, but also, as a tool for measuring Guyana’s forest cover to assist in decision-making for a range of activities. Ministry of Natural Resources launches Youth in Natural Resources Mentorship Programme with the aim of showcasing the natural resources sector as a viable career choice for our young people
